Doratify uses an AI model to recognize the food in a photo or text description and estimate portions and nutrients. This page explains exactly what is sent, to whom, and what is kept.

What the AI does, and what it does not

  • It does: name each item on the plate, estimate its portion in grams, and estimate calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat. It also says clearly when an image is not food.
  • It does not: calculate your calorie target, decide your workout, or make any health decision. Targets, safety limits and exercise choices are calculated in the app with published formulas and tested rules, never by the AI.

The path of a photo

  1. On your phone. The photo is resized to at most 1024 pixels and compressed (about 300 KB).
  2. To our server. It is sent over an encrypted (TLS) connection to our server function in the European Union, which checks your consent and daily limit.
  3. To the AI provider. The function sends the image to Anthropic’s Claude API and receives a structured result.
  4. Back to you. You see the items and can edit every number before saving.
  5. Gone. The photo exists only in memory during the request. It is not written to our database, file storage or logs, and the temporary file on your phone is deleted.

Only the values you save (meal name, items, portions and nutrients) are stored with your food log.

Text descriptions

When you type a meal instead of taking a photo, the text follows the same path and the same rules.

The AI provider

Our provider is Anthropic PBC (United States). Under Anthropic’s commercial terms:

  • your photos and text are not used to train AI models;
  • inputs and outputs are deleted from Anthropic’s systems within 30 days at most, unless they must be retained to enforce its usage policy or by law.

The transfer is covered by the safeguards described in our Privacy Policy.

  • Before your first scan, a dedicated screen explains this process and asks for your permission. Without it, photo and text analysis stay off; you can still log meals by repeating recent ones.
  • You can withdraw this permission at any time in the app’s Settings, or by writing to [email protected].
  • Daily limits apply to scans and text analyses; if an analysis fails, it does not count against your limit.

Accuracy

Photo-based estimates can be off, especially for mixed dishes, sauces, oils and hidden ingredients. Treat results as a starting point: adjust the grams, and over a few weeks Doratify’s adaptive target corrects for systematic error using your real weight trend.
